How Mindfulness Helps

When You Live With Hearing Loss

Living with hearing loss isn’t just about missing words, it often also includes:

  • The extra effort it takes to follow conversations
  • The stress of asking for repeats
  • Worry about misunderstandings
  • Emotional strain that builds up over time

Mindfulness and meditation can give you a chance to pause and reset. These are practices known to support the body’s natural ability to settle, helping to ease the stress response and bring the nervous system back to a quieter, more balanced state. They can:

  • Support focus and awareness during listening-heavy days
  • Help you meet stress and challenging hearing situations with more steadiness and ease
  • Provide space to rest and recharge after periods of concentrated listening

In my experience, even a few minutes of mindful breathing offers a different way of relating to stress and social interactions.

Hi, I’m Janaki

I have lived with bilateral moderate hearing loss my whole life, and I understand the hidden effort it takes to move through the world. I also started meditating as a child and have been practicing regularly for 30+ years. Meditation has been one of my most important tools for staying grounded, patient, and connected, even when communication feels tiring or complicated.

Today, I’m a meditation teacher, and I focus on supporting people living with hearing loss and anyone who feels worn out by constant listening. My work weaves together meditation, mindfulness, and other stress-management practices with lived experience of the emotional side of hearing loss.

I’m here to offer a space where we can soften, recharge, and reconnect with ourselves.

Practice With Me One-on-One

If you are looking for a more individualized approach, I offer one-on-one sessions focused on customized guided mindfulness and building a sustainable personal practice.

Sessions draw on practices such as breath awareness, body scan, and guided meditation, chosen to fit where you are and what your nervous system needs that day.

We will also identify a simple, realistic routine, so you leave with practices you can comfortably continue outside of our sessions.

Individual sessions are educational and focused on mindfulness practice. They are not medical or psychological treatment.
